In order to drive safely you need to be able to see clearly. Many drivers sabotage their own visibility without even realizing it. Consider the following tips to ensure that you have full visibility when driving.
Wiper Blades
Wiper blades need to be changed regularly. Many drivers don't consider changing their wiper blades until they break, but it is actually recommended that they be changed at minimum once a year. The rubber in the blade can become brittle over time. They are also subject to wear if used frequently or if used on an older vehicle that has a pitted windshield. If you are located in a climate that gets snow and ice, consider purchasing wiper blades specially made to handle those elements. Also, be sure to clean snow and ice off your wiper blades when cleaning off your windshield.
Clean Glass
The interior and exterior glass in your vehicle should be regularly cleaned. When in darker conditions, dirty windows can be difficult to see through. It is important that you are able to see other vehicles clearly. In addition to cleaning the glass, be sure to clean all mirrors. Finally, make sure your windshield washer fluid basin is kept full so you have plenty of washer fluid when you need it.
Headlights
Replace your headlight bulbs if they are over two years old, as they become dimmer with age. You want your headlights to provide adequate light for nighttime driving and for driving in inclement weather. In addition, make sure you clean snow and ice off of all lights before heading out for a drive.
Limit Decorations
Avoid putting bumper stickers on your rear window because they block your visibility. Instead, place them on your bumper. Don't hang items from your rearview mirror because they can be distracting. Many drivers like to decorate by hanging fuzzy dice or some other trinket from this mirror, but it is recommended you place decorations somewhere that will not impact your visibility.
Make visibility a priority in your car. Your main goal is to get to your destination safely. With good visibility, it is more likely that you will be able to achieve that goal. Have a safe drive!
