Which Type of Auto Insurance Do I Need in San Antonio?
Auto insurance will help you get financial help following unexpected, unavoidable problems with your vehicle. Policies can offer coverage like:
-
Comprehensive coverage—If your car sustains damage from hazards like fire, theft, vandalism, hail, falling objects or water, this coverage will help pay for the damage.
-
Collision coverage—Damage to your car from wrecks or collisions with stationary objects will be covered under collision insurance. This coverage is separate from comprehensive coverage.
-
Liability coverage—As an at-fault state, Texas requires drivers who cause accidents to pay for the damage of all involved parties.Liability insurance can pay for third-partyinjuries (e.g., injuries to other drivers, their passengers, or pedestrians) or property damage.
-
Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage—If another driver is atfault for a wreck, there’s a chance they will not have liability coverage. UM/UIM coverage willhelp pay for your damages or injuries using your own policy, but you will not be penalized for fault.
-
Medical payments coverage—This coverage pays medical expenses and other costs if you or your passengers are injured in an accident, no matter who is at fault.

Your Auto Insurance Discounters agent can help you choose the right combination of coverage to maximize the financial assistance your policy might provide.
Am I Required to Buy Auto Insurance in Texas?
All Texas drivers are required to carry at least the following coverage:
This coverage is frequently called 30/60/25 coverage, and you can carry higher liability coverage limits than just the minimum. If you finance your vehicle, you may also be required to carry collision, comprehensive, gap or other physical damage coverage.
How do I Insure a Motorcycle in San Antonio?
Motorcycles are not insurable with standard auto insurance. A customized motorcycle insurance policy will offer the coverage you need. The plan can provide collision, comprehensive, liability, UM/UIM and other coverage that will protect bikers and their motorcycles in case of accidents.
Specific coverage you may also be able to add to your motorcycle policy includes:
-
Trailer damage coverage
-
Aftermarket/custom equipment coverage
-
Trip interruption coverage
-
Safety equipment coverage
Auto Insurance Discounters can help you get optimized motorcycle insurance alongside your existing auto insurance. Bundling options are available, which can help you unlock maximized savings.
I Have an SR-22 Requirement. What Does This Mean?
Texas law requires some high-risk drivers to carry a financial responsibility insurance certificate (SR-22). The SR-22 may be required if you have been convicted of driving uninsured or have had your driving privileges suspended.
You will request the SR-22 from your insurer, and you can only return to the road after you have filed the SR-22 with the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS). The SR-22 will verify for the TxDPS that you carry at least the minimum 30/60/25 liability coverage, and the certificate will remain active for two years. If you let your auto policy lapse while you have the SR-22, your insurer will notify the department, and further penalties may result.
One drawback to SR-22s is that they can sometimes lead to higher auto insurance rates. However, with the help of your Auto Insurance Discounters agent, you will still get the best savings from your policy.
